Oklahoma has already played one game this season inside Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Now, ahead of their second, the Sooners’ field will feature a new sponsorship.

On social media on Friday, OU revealed Riverwind Casino has been sponsored on Owen Field with a pair of logos in between the 20 and 30-yard lines, as part of a deal with the help of Learfield. That comes ahead of tomorrow’s ranked matchup of No. 15 Michigan vs. No. 18 Oklahoma.

“It’s time, OU Fans!” they posted online at Riverwind Casino. “We’re proud to be the Official Entertainment Destination of OU Athletics.”

Back on June 6th, 2024, the NCAA approved on-field commercial advertisements at every level of college football. Oklahoma is just the latest school to announce such a sponsorship coming to their playing surface this year. Since the start of August, South Carolina (Blanchard Machinery), Auburn (YellaWood), Indiana (Merchants Bank), Texas (Humann), and Alabama (US Navy) are all schools that have announced similar plans.

On July 15th, Sooner Sports Properties, owned by Learfield, took over operations in name, image, and likeness for Oklahoma. They came together with 1Oklahoma, their collective, to create one entity in their space for NIL.

“As the landscape and rules governing college athletics continue to evolve, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to stay ahead of the curve and create significant NIL growth opportunities to our student-athletes,” OU AD Joe Castiglione said in a press release. “Centralizing efforts through our trusted partner, Learfield/Sooner Sports Properties, allows us to immediately expand what we already have in place and deliver pioneering NIL opportunities that build long-term value for our athletes and our program.”

ESPN College GameDay announces Trae Young as guest picker for Oklahoma vs. Michigan

Trae Young, a Sooner alum and now the point guard of the Atlanta Hawks, announced he will be taking on a big role this weekend. He will be the guest picker during ESPN’s College GameDay in Week 2 ahead of Saturday’s much-anticipated game between Michigan and Oklahoma in Norman.

“What’s up, y’all. It’s Trae Young here. Excited to welcome y’all to my hometown, my home city, Norman, Oklahoma, to be this week’s guest picker on College GameDay,” Young said in the video announcement. “Just a week after Lee Corso decided to hang it up, we’ve got that Team From Up North coming here and I’m not worried at all. I’m ready to set the tone. I know Sooner fans are ready to set the tone. So we know what we’ve got to do. Boomer F***ing Sooner!”

Young, a former McDonald’s All-American, only spent one season in Norman before being the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, and has been a four-time All-Star in the NBA over seven seasons spent with the Hawks. That came after a sensational freshman year in which Young was a Consensus First Team All-American and All Big-12 First Team at Oklahoma after leading the NCAA in both scoring and assists at 27.4 points (42.2% FG, 36% 3PT on 3.7 makes) and 8.7 assists per game.
